Energa – Northland Power offshore wind farm joint venture gets green light from Polish regulator

Energa, a subsidiary of Polish energy company ORLEN Group, announced on Monday (27 November) that Poland’s Office of Competition and Consumer Protection has approved the move to create a joint venture between Energa and Canadian energy company Northland Power.

The joint venture is set to provide services for the maintenance of offshore wind farms in Poland, including technical management of offshore wind farm infrastructure, commercial asset management, occupational health and safety and environmental protection.

“Energa Wytwarzanie is one of the most experienced entities in Poland operating in the wind energy segment. The competencies and knowledge of our employees combined with Northland Power’s know-how in the field of servicing offshore wind farms are a perfect combination for the growing sector in Poland,” said Piotr Meler, President of the Management Board of Energa Wytwarzanie.

Poland’s first offshore wind farm “Baltic Power” with a capacity of nearly 1.2 gigawatts (GW) is planned to be commissioned in 2026. It is a joint project of ORLEN and Northland Power and the largest renewables investment in Central and Eastern Europe.

ORLEN reaches final investment decision on Baltic Power

“Northland Power develops and operates wind assets in several countries around the world. Poland is a strategic market for us due to the planned, very dynamic development of offshore wind projects in the coming years. Cooperation with Energa Wytwarzanie is of great importance to us. It is one of the largest producers of green energy in Poland. We believe that both parties will benefit greatly from the cooperation we have initiated,” said David Povall, Vice President of Offshore Wind Energy.

The potential power generation of wind farms in the Baltic is estimated at over 30 GW, with favourable wind conditions, low salinity and relatively shallow waters, Energa noted in a press release.
