Azeri gas to be stored in Ukraine, Naftogaz CEO says

Rovshan Najaf, the President of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), met with Oleksiy Chernyshov, the Chief Executive Officer of Ukraine’s National Joint-Stock Company Naftogaz.

The discussions covered the prospects of cooperation in the oil and gas industry, including exploring the potential for storing Azerbaijani gas in Ukraine.

“We are working on expanding our cooperation,” wrote Mr Chernyshov.

Additionally, the parties exchanged views on energy transition, decarbonisation and other relevant topics of mutual interest.

In 2023, Azerbaijan exported to the EU around 12 billion cubic metres (bcm) of natural gas, which represents more than a 46 per cent increase since 2021.
