The Regional Coordination Center for the Security of Electricity Transmission Operators in Southeast European countries held its first meeting in Sofia with a focus on the achievements in implementing the European legislation in the energy sector, as well as the challenges for the future development of the Center.
The Deputy Minister of Energy of Bulgaria, Krasimir Nenov, welcomed the participants to the meeting and emphasised its key role in ensuring the security of electricity transmission networks in Southeast Europe. The services provided by the Regional Coordination Center contribute to increasing electricity exchange between transmission systems, optimising the operation of interconnected markets and ensuring supply in the transition to carbon-neutral energy, he said.
Indeed, the annual report on the services provided by the Regional Coordination Center for Electricity Transmission Operators in Southeast European countries clearly outlines its contribution to the security of electricity supply at competitive prices for all users in the region.
The Regional Coordination Center covers two regions for transmission capacity calculation – Greece-Italy and Southeast Europe, which underscores the strategic importance of future cooperation among countries to achieve European climate goals. The Director of the Central Dispatching Office of ESO, Dimitar Zarchev and Plamen Mladenovski from CEPS, emphasised the importance of synchronous and coordinated interaction among transmission operators in the region for the balanced functioning of the pan-European electricity market.
