ORLEN’s Energa completes Wielbark PV farm expansion

Energa Group, part of the ORLEN Group, announced last Thursday (4 January) that the expansion of the Wielbark photovoltaic (PV) farm by 8 megawatts (MW) was finalised by the end of last year.

The construction of two additional PV installations Mitra (65 MW) and Żuki (2.4 MW) is ongoing, the company said in a press release. In the first quarter of this year, Energa Green Development plans to commence the construction of five more PV installations with a total capacity of around 42 MW.

The Wielbark PV farm, located in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, with an installed capacity of 62 MW, was commissioned in the second quarter of 2023.

As part of its expansion, Energa installed an extra 15,000 panels and 19 inverters, bringing the total capacity of the farm to around 70 MW. The farm is expected to provide power to approximately 35,000 households.

The company is also in the process of acquiring additional clean energy sources. In June 2023, the company signed an agreement with Portuguese energy company Greenvolt to purchase a wind farm and four photovoltaic farms, with a combined capacity of approximately 59 MW. In October 2023, Energa also signed a preliminary agreement with Lewandpol Holding for the acquisition of a special-purpose company implementing the “Kleczew Solar & Wind” project, with a total planned capacity of up to 334 MW.

With the completion of the Wielbark PV expansion, Gryf PV and Żuki PV farms and the planned acquisitions, the total installed capacity of Energa’s renewable sources is set to increase to nearly 990 MW.

Energa plans to spend almost 14 billion zlotys (3.2 billion euros) on clean energy development as part of the company’s goal to reach 3.6 GW of clean energy capacity by 2030.
