Japan’s Sekisui Chemical interested in open solar panels factory in Slovakia

Slovakia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Denisa Saková signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Japanese plastics manufacturer Sekisui Chemical, which is developing flexible photovoltaic panels to explore the possibility of producing the panels in Slovakia.

“We are interested not only in working together on the expansion of this technology in Slovakia but at the same time we also want to explore the possibilities of locating the production of such panels in our country,” said the Deputy Prime Minister. According to her, modern technologies in energy have the potential to help not only the industry but also households.

The MoU creates the prerequisites for closer cooperation between the Slovak government and the Sekisui Chemical company and both parties also expressed their willingness to start negotiations on the potential location of the production of this technology in Slovakia.

According to current data, the production of solar panels of this type does not require any precious raw materials and its expansion could contribute to the decarbonisation of several European countries in the future.
