Hungary counts on Bulgaria and Turkey to provide reliable transit routes for the country’s gas supply in the coming period, ensuring energy security in the long term, said Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary on the margins of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.
The Minister emphasised that there is a great need for both countries to ensure Hungary’s gas supply, which is likely to remain so, as gas supplies mostly come to the country from the southern direction, through Russia, Turkey, Bulgaria and Serbia.
“If this transportation route were not operational, we would be in big trouble and unable to ensure our country’s safe gas supply,” he underlined adding that both Bulgaria and Turkey reaffirmed their commitment to continue to serve as reliable transit routes in the coming years.
The Minister also welcomed the signing of the agreement with Ankara, under which 275 million cubic metres (mcm) of natural gas will be delivered to Hungary from Turkey in the second and third quarters of 2024, making Hungary the first non-neighbouring country to which Turkish gas is exported.
