Serbia and North Macedonia sign deal on mining and energy cooperation

On 31 March, the governments of Serbia and North Macedonia signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on closer cooperation in the field of mining and energy.

Serbia’s Minister of Mining and Energy, Dubravka Đedović pointed out that the MoU sets a broad framework for cooperation between the two countries in energy and mining. “In the conditions of the energy crisis, we need to cooperate even more closely as neighbours in order to fight together with the consequences of the crisis and ensure greater security of supply,” said Minister Đedović.

“We want to work on this through the Open Balkans initiative, as well as through joint projects, such as the planned construction of a gas interconnection between Serbia and North Macedonia. For the implementation of this project, we expect support from the European Union as it is important for the diversification and security of gas supply in the region,” she added.

The agreement was signed by North Macedonia’s Minister of Economy, Krešnik Bekteši. The signing took place during a state visit to Serbia by the North Macedonian Prime Minister, Dimitar Kovačevski.
