Turkey’s energy group BOTAŞ signed an agreement with the Hungarian state-owned company MVM CEEnergy for additional supplies of natural gas to Hungary, of nearly 300 million cubic metres.
The agreement, defined as historical by BOTAŞ, is perfectly in line with Turkey’s strategic goals in the field of energy and its vision of being a natural gas hub.
BOTAŞ General Manager and Chairman of the Board Burhan Özcan and MVM CEEnergy CEO László Fritsch also agreed on cooperating on the use of Turkey’s strong LNG infrastructure and the natural gas storage facilities of the two countries within the framework of common interests.
According to Hungary’s Energy Ministry, it is crucial to preserve the security of supply and for this, the government is ensuring the lowest gas and electricity prices in Europe for Hungarian families.
“Therefore, it is extremely important to maintain this stability, in which Turkey plays a key role as an alternative supplier, for the diversification of the European natural gas supply,” read the Ministry’s press statement.
