Earlier this week, Serbia’s Minister of Mining and Energy, Dubravka Đedović, met with the Director General of the state-owned natural gas, Srbijagas, Dušan Bajatović to discuss the progress of the construction of the Serbia-Bulgaria gas interconnection, the Niš-Batajnica gas pipeline and the gas interconnection with North Macedonia.
As highlighted by Minister Đedović, a number of important steps were taken last year to ensure that the construction of the gas interconnection with Bulgaria proceeds according to plan, including the project receiving the status of “a project of special importance” for Serbia.
“Given that the Serbia-Bulgaria interconnection is of strategic importance for the energy security of our country because with its construction we will diversify the gas supply, it is important to respect the given frameworks and deadlines, so that the works will be completed before the start of the next heating season,” the Minister stressed.
As stated in a press release by the Serbian Ministry of Mining and Energy, the Director General of Srbijagas informed the Energy Minister that a visit to Bulgaria and a tour of the construction on their side of the gas pipeline is planned in the coming period, in order to ensure that the “dynamics of the works” in Bulgaria follow the scheduled deadlines.
It is understood that both sides also discussed the implementation of the Niš-Batajnica gas pipeline project, as it represents the next phase of gas interconnection with Bulgaria. In addition, they discussed the next stages of the interconnection project with North Macedonia.
