Renewable Music: V4 composers raise awareness with unique concerts this summer

‘Renewable Music. V4 Composers for Sustainability’ is an international project launched by the Polish Composers’ Union in cooperation with Berg Orchestra (Czech Republic), Waves Bratislava (Slovakia) and UMZE Association (Hungary) as part of the Creative Europe 2021-2027 programme.

The project’s primary goal is to rejuvenate international collaboration and heighten awareness of the escalating climate and energy crisis by integrating eco-friendly practices into the music sector. Central to this initiative are four newly commissioned musical pieces inspired by the theme of ‘renewability,’ created by selected composers from the Visegrad Group countries—Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary.

These original compositions will be performed at four distinct concerts in Warsaw, Prague, Bratislava, and Budapest. Each performance will feature a local ensemble augmented by musicians from partner countries, facilitating an international artist exchange. The concerts are set in unique open-air venues, chosen to highlight the connection between music and the natural environment.

In addition to the concerts, the project includes a series of workshops, masterclasses, open rehearsals, and lectures aimed at exploring the intersections of music, ecology, and sustainable development. The initiative will culminate in an international conference dedicated to these themes.

This summer, “Renewable Music: V4 Composers for Sustainability” will host concerts in all V4 countries. The performances are scheduled for 15 July at St. Catherine’s Garden in Prague and 20 July at the Courtyard of the Royal Castle in Warsaw. The project will continue in August with concerts in Budapest and Bratislava, set for 2 August at the House of Music in Budapest and 17 August on the Green Roof of Nivy Station in Bratislava.
