According to the data on Community support to Ukraine’s energy sector from the Emergency Response Coordination Centre of the European Commission (ERCC), Lithuania is the EU Member State that has delivered the largest amount of generators and transformers to Ukraine.
In particular, since the start of the war in Ukraine, Lithuanian municipalities, NGOs and energy companies have handed over 824 generators and 267 transformers to Ukraine. According to preliminary estimates, Lithuania’s assistance to Ukraine’s energy sector reaches 6 million euros.
Lithuanian and Ukrainian energy entities have been maintaining contact and discussing the provision of essential specialised equipment. These days Lithuania’s electricity transmission system operator Litgrid and its Ukrainian counterparts have agreed on a new aid package and the electricity and gas distribution company ESO is already organising the transfer of 60 tonnes of transformer oil, while another aid package for Ukraine’s gas distribution systems is also being coordinated.
In the coming weeks, NGOs, municipalities and energy companies will transport over 50 units of generators of various capacities and other necessary equipment to Ukraine. In total, the generators already transported to Ukraine have exceeded 1,375 kilowatts (kW).
