Latvia’s electric utility company Latvenergo is continuing to develop electric car charging stations under the trademark Elektrum, opening at least 84 ports by the end of 2021. By the end of 2021, there will be more than 250 charging ports in Latvia. Thus Elektrum will be the largest commercial electric car charging network in the country.
A year ago, with the opening of three electric car charging stations, Latvenergo launched the pilot project to evaluate the electric car charging business opportunities and offered the most modern charging facilities in the country. Since then, around 400 customers at Elektrum charging stations have made almost 5,000 recharges which means more than 400,000 kilometres driven without using fossil resources.
“The pilot project has given us the opportunity to better understand the needs, wishes and habits of electric car owners, as well as research market opportunities and developments by expanding our activities in new markets in the industry,” said Kaspars Cikmačs, Member of the Board of Latvenergo and Director of Technology and Support.“During the past year, Latvenergo has significantly strengthened competence in electromobility, not only by significantly expanding it Elektrum number of recharging points but also by establishing cooperation with other companies, cooperating with supermarkets and office centres and establishing partners in parking lots Elektrum charging stations.”
Currently, more than 840 electric cars have been registered in Latvia and their number continues to grow rapidly. Forecasts show that in 2030, there could be more than 30,000 light electric cars in Latvia.
