Moldova’s government to back consumers compensating the difference of tariffs for natural gas

Moldova’s household consumers will be backed by the government which will compensate the difference of tariffs for the consumption of natural gas and thermal energy, following the increase in the concerned costs.

The cabinet of ministers will compensate the difference in tariff for gas consumption on the period November 20921 – March 2022, as follows: for the first 50 cubic metres consumed, the cabinet will compensate 67 per cent of the difference between the price from the month of invoicing and the one from October 2021 and for the next 100 cubic metres consumed – 50 per cent of the concerned difference. About 746,000 household consumers will benefit from these compensations.  

Ass for the compensations for the thermal energy, for the first Gcal consumed, the government will compensate 67 per cent of the difference between the price from the invoicing month and the one from October 2021.  

About 210 million lei (approximately 42.3 million euros) is provided for in the draft law on the amendment of the state budget law for 2021 and about 900 million lei (approximately 181.7 million euros) in the draft state budget law for 2022.

The government’s decision follows an instruction from the Commission for Emergency Situations (CSE) which urged the Moldovagaz stock company to submit an application to the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE), in order to adjust the regulated prices for the providing of natural gas.
