The Hellenic Energy Exchange Natural Gas Trading Platform was launched in Greece, allowing anonymous transactions for natural gas in the national system. The platform is expected to serve as a key tool on the road to the future integration of renewable gases and other innovative products into the wholesale market of the country.
According to the natural gas transmission system operator in Greece (DESFA), the launch of the Trading Platform was successful and did not present any technical issues. The total volume of transactions carried out through it reached 1,101 megawatt-hours (MWh) and the participants adapted to the trading rules fast.
The Trading Platform “offers multiple benefits, most importantly price discovery, helping market participants to optimize supply conditions for the benefit of consumers and overall enhancing security of supply. At the same time, it promotes interconnectivity in the energy market of South-East Europe and enhances market liquidity in the wider region”, suggests the DESFA press statement.
Eleven participants have already registered at the Trading Platform while new ones are expected to be introduced as soon as their registration process is complete.
