Work underway to create Azerbaijan’s green energy zones

Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov announced the commissioning of the largest solar power plant in the region, the Garadagh SPP, on the occasion of the fifth meeting of the commission established by the President “On the implementation of pilot projects in the field of use of renewable energy sources”.

The Minister also noted that work is underway on the development of the liberated territories as a green energy zone and regular monitoring is carried out in the relevant area. Noting that Nakhchivan was also declared a green energy zone by the head of the State, the implementation of the state program on socio-economic development for 2023-2027, which includes increasing the share of renewable energy sources in the autonomous republic, was discussed.

At the same time, it was noted that work is underway to export green energy to Europe.

At the meeting, the allocation of offshore territories for renewable energy projects, documents to be signed, integration of new powers into the network and other issues were discussed.
