TAURON commences 54 MW PV farm construction in south-central Poland

Polish power company TAURON is commencing the construction of a photovoltaic (PV) farm with a planned capacity of 54 megawatts (MW) in Bałków, Świętokrzyskie voivodeship (south-central Poland).

“Transformation of the energy mix towards renewable energy sources along with investments in energy storage will be TAURON’s development priority in the coming years,” said Michał Orłowski, Vice President of the TAURON management board. “Currently, including the farm in Bałków, we are building new renewable energy assets with a capacity of over 360 MW – three photovoltaic farms with a capacity of almost 200 MW and five wind farms with a capacity of over 160 MW.”

The PV farm is planned to be commissioned in 2025, TAURON noted in a press release. Once completed, the farm would be one of the largest in the Świętokrzyskie voivodeship, covering an area of over 50 hectares. The farm’s energy generation is estimated to cover the annual electricity demand of 27,000 households.

“The newly built farm is a greenfield project, implemented from scratch by TAURON Zielona Energia,” explained Monika Piątkiewicz, Vice President of the TAURON Zielona Energia management board, TAURON’s subsidiary responsible for the preparation of renewable energy investments, project acquisition and investment supervision over the construction of photovoltaic and wind farms. “As planned, bifacial photovoltaic panels will be installed on the farm. This technology uses light reflected from the bottom of the cell, which improves the efficiency of the panels and, ultimately, the efficiency of energy production.”

In addition to the farm in Bałków, TAURON is constructing two photovoltaic power plants in Proszówek (southwestern Poland) with a capacity of 55 MW and Postomino (northwestern Poland) with a capacity of 90 MW.
