Serbia to hold wind power auctions in June, Minister says

Serbia’s Energy and Mining Minister, Dubravka Đedović confirmed that a call for wind power auctions will be held in the coming weeks, during a meeting with representatives from the Renewable Energy Association Serbia on Monday (29 May).

Minister Đedović also said that her government is in the process of adopting a three-year plan to include other renewable energy sources (RES) in future auctions (including solar energy).

“The adoption of amendments to the Law on the Use of RES created the conditions for the connection of new solar and wind power plants with the necessary security and predictability for investors in terms of project planning and with responsibility for balancing new capacities. During the work on amending the regulations, we adopted some of the proposals of the Association of Renewable Energy Serbia and we are grateful to them for their support and constructive approach,” said Minister Đedović.

“All by-laws are in the process of being adopted by the Government of the Republic of Serbia, and the plan is to call for auctions in June that will bring new domestic ‘green megawatts’ to our energy system that will contribute to the security of our country’s supply,” she noted. “Also, we are in the process of adopting a three-year plan for auctions that, in addition to wind farms, also include solar energy, which is an important message for potential investors in solar projects.”

The representatives of the RES Association pointed out that they gather the largest producers of electricity from renewables, who have made the biggest contribution to increasing the share of RES power generation in recent years. They noted their members’ interest in participating in the upcoming auctions, stressing that they have at least 500 megawatts (MW) of available wind capacity.
