North Macedonia in ‘good shape’ for green transition, Energy Community Secretariat Director says

During a recent visit to Skopje (9-10 March), the Deputy Director of the Energy Community Secretariat, Dirk Buschle, met with senior officials from the North Macedonian government to discuss the country’s energy and climate reforms, the Secretariat announced on Monday (13 March).

The discussions focused on the launch of the organised electricity market in May and North Macedonia’s regional integration, unbundling of the gas transmission system operator Nomagas, the state of the revision of the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) and compliance with the Energy Community’s environmental norms.

In an address to North Macedonia’s parliamentary committee for Economic Affairs, Deputy Director Buschle focused on the country’s and the Energy Community’s upcoming challenges. “As in other European countries, fast-tracking the green transition will help North Macedonia overcome the effects of the energy price crisis and dependency. With a significant increase in renewable energy lately and a second interconnector for gas in preparation, the country is in good shape to move to the next level,” he said.

“The transition will be further facilitated by stronger regional integration of markets, projects and policies under the Energy Community,” the Deputy Director added.
