Poland’s power utility company Enea will cooperate with Spanish energy group Iberdrola on the development of wind farms in the Baltic Sea.
The two companies signed a letter of intent concerning the investment in offshore wind farms with a possible total capacity of up to 3.3 gigawatts (GW).
The project is in line with Enea Group’s Development Strategy, which aims at a balanced use of renewable and low-carbon electricity generation technologies. According to the Group, the share of renewables in the company’s energy mix should account for 22 per cent by 2025 and 33 per cent in 2030.
Enea is assumed to hold a minority stake in the projects, with the eventual degree of its involvement will be determined at a later stage of the talks.
Last year, during an Economic Congress held in Katowice, officials from the Ministry of Energy presented different ways to develop Poland’s renewable energy sources, highlighting offshore wind as a key component of Poland’s future generation mix.
