Construction of largest offshore towers factory commences in Gdańsk

The construction of an offshore towers factory in Gdańsk (north Poland), a joint venture project developed by the special purpose company Baltic Towers, has officially been inaugurated (31 August).

The project is a joint venture by the Industrial Development Agency (Agencja Rozwoju Przemysłu) and Spanish energy company GRI Renewable Industries.

As part of the project, a production hall for offshore towers for the largest planned wind turbines with a capacity of over 15 megawatts (MW) will be built. This modern production facility, designed and built by “Industry 4.0 standards,” is estimated to have the capacity to produce over 150 towers annually.

“We are proud to be able to participate in this key project for wind energy in Poland. It aims to achieve sustainable development and carbon neutrality. This joint venture creates a world leader in the offshore market, which will contribute to achieving ambitious goals in the installation of renewable energy sources in the next decade,” said Jon Riberas, Chairman of GRI Renewable Industries.

Over 500 highly specialised jobs are estimated to be created thanks to the new offshore towers factory.

“The Industrial Development Agency has been taking care of the reconstruction of the industrial potential of the Polish economy for years. In turn, the new ARP strategy means more investments in the energy transformation. I am convinced that the construction of a factory of towers for offshore wind energy in Gdańsk is wind in the sails for the entire Polish economy. This is a project that combines economic interests and those related to the strategic energy security of Poland and Europe,” said Cezariusz Lesisz, President of the Management Board of the Industrial Development Agency.

The construction of the factory is planned to be completed by the second quarter of 2025.
