Bulgaria’s TSO envisions the creation of a Trans-Balkan Adriatic Corridor to share green energy

Bulgaria’s Electricity System Operator ESO, together with the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E) is working to create a Trans-Balkan Adriatic Corridor to share green energy among the countries located in this region and to use it efficiently. This statement was made by the Executive Director of ESO, Angelin Tsachev, during a scientific forum about Bulgaria’s energy transition in the context of the RePowerEU plan.

According to the Minister of Economy and Industry Nikola Stoyanov, Bulgaria should take advantage of the opportunities provided by the RePowerEU plan to achieve long-term and sustainable results.

Among the priorities, there is the decentralisation of electricity production, which requires further development of the electricity transmission network to ensure better connectivity between the European countries. As pointed out by Mr Tsachev, Bulgaria should adapt its electricity transmission network for the full integration of renewable energy sources.

In this regard, by the end of this year, ESO will take some concrete steps to transform over 700 kilometres of power lines from a voltage level of 220 kilovolts (kV) to 400 kV. Furthermore, 20 substations will be reconstructed.
