Representatives of suppliers from Poland and abroad interested in the Baltica 2 offshore wind farm project took part in “Supplier Day” on Wednesday (11 October) in Warsaw, organised by Polish energy company PGE Group and Danish energy company Ørsted.
The event, attended by around 450 business representatives, was an opportunity to hear about the current stage of the Baltica 2 project, the status of contracting key components and services and tenders planned to be awarded in the near future.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of suppliers already contracted for the Baltica 2 project, who addressed potential partners from Poland interested in joining the project as sub-suppliers and subcontractors. Among them is German engineering Siemens Gamesa which plans to deliver 107 turbines for the project.
Representatives of suppliers emphasised that they were looking for partners from the Polish market in various areas of their activities related to Baltica 2. In turn, representatives of PGE and Ørsted discussed possible areas of cooperation in the multi-year phase of operation of the offshore wind farm.
“By organising the Suppliers’ Day, we have created a unique platform for exchanging information and contacts, thanks to which Polish entities have received a real chance to join the supply chain for the Baltica 2 project. We are glad that we can be part of the energy transformation in Poland, but also provide an impulse for the national economy, creating thousands of well-paid jobs in the coming decades,” said Agata Staniewska, Managing Director of Ørsted Offshore Polska.
In some of the individual meetings, the organisers allowed participants to participate in approximately 70 networking sessions. During these business talks, both parties – contracted suppliers and entrepreneurs willing to cooperate with them – could discuss areas of potential cooperation, mutual possibilities and expectations, but also requirements, for example in terms of safety standards.
The Suppliers’ Day was the fifth event of this type organised by PGE and Ørsted. Baltica 2 is one of two stages of the Baltica offshore wind farm, the construction of which is being jointly developed by the PGE Group and Ørsted.
Baltica 2 with a planned installed capacity of 1.5 gigawatts (GW) is scheduled to be commissioned in 2027. Electricity production from the second stage – Baltica 3 with a capacity of 1 GW – is planned to start by 2029. The total capacity of 2.5 GW will produce energy capable of powering approximately four million homes.
