Albania’s Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku signed three important cooperation agreements with the German Ambassador Peter Zingraf regarding three key sectors of the economy, including energy.
“The financing of these projects will be based on loans with favourable conditions from KfW [Germany’s development bank], which is one of our most important and reliable partners in the development of regional infrastructure,” said Minister Balluku.
The first agreement concerns the rehabilitation of the Fierza hydroelectric power plant as the largest hydropower plant in the country. The second agreement is related to investments for regional development while the third one refers to a program for sustainable and climate-friendly waste management.
Its primary goal is to address solid waste in a sustainable way through investments in the relevant infrastructure. The program also contributes to the implementation of the Solid Waste Master Plan and will affect the harmonisation of Albania’s standards with those of the European Union, as well as improving environmental conditions the living conditions of citizens. Planned projects also include the construction of a regional landfill in Berat, as well as the construction of waste transfer stations.
