President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed stronger cooperation in the field of energy security between Ukraine and Europe with the Federal Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz and the President of France Emmanuel Macron at the Eastern Partnership Summit in Brussels, Belgium.
Zelenskyy highlighted Ukraine’s trust in German support in maintaining gas transit through the territory of Ukraine after 2024. His message reflected Ukraine’s Gas Transmission System Operator’s position that the extension of the transit contract through the territory of Ukraine can guarantee energy security for both, Ukraine and Europe.
General Director of Ukraine’s Gas Transmission System Operator GTSOU, Sergiy Makogon emphasised that the Company is ready to extend the transit contract immediately.
“Our partners in the EU should take into account the obvious advantages of the Ukrainian GTS and consider the prospect of guaranteed, non-politicised, stable transportation of gas to European countries”, he noted.
“Our system fully meets all the requirements of the European legislation, it is a reliable and time-tested infrastructure with unique backup capacities, which today is the best guarantee of safe transit”, Mr Makogon added.
