Poland and Germany discuss oil supply in Gdańsk

On Friday (12 May) Poland’s Deputy Minister at the Ministry for Climate and the Environment, Adam Guibourgé-Czetwertyński met with Germany’s Parliamentary Secretary of State at the Federal Ministry of Economy, Michael Kellner at the Gdańsk oil port to discuss current bilateral cooperation in the area of oil supply to Germany.

“We are at the Port of Gdansk – a strategic place for Poland’s energy security. Thanks to the investments that Poland has made in recent years, it has been possible to build the country’s independence and end supplies from Russia,” said Deputy Minister Guibourgé-Czetwertyński.

The Polish Deputy Minister said that his country’s energy independence is possible, among others, by doubling the storage capacity at the Gdańsk oil port. Two years ago, Poland opened storage facilities with a capacity of 400,000 tonnes. “Thanks to this, we are able to secure supplies to Polish refineries. The priority of the Government of the Republic of Poland is to meet the needs of the Polish market,” he added.

“We are also able to ensure reliable oil supplies to German refineries, provided that Russian companies are removed from holding shares,” Deputy Minister Guibourgé-Czetwertyński highlighted. “The declaration made by Germany to stop oil supplies from Russia gives an additional impetus to introduce appropriate regulations at the EU level. From the point of view of Polish interests, EU sanctions on all Russian raw materials are the most effective instrument to end cooperation with Russia.”
