Greece’s Minister of Energy shows interest in increasing gas supplies from Azerbaijan

Greece’s Minister of Environment and Energy Kostas Skrekas expressed high interest in expanding the Southern Gas Corridor and increasing the volume of gas supplies from Azerbaijan.

“Azerbaijan is an important and reliable partner for the supply of natural gas, significantly contributing to replace Russian imports and ensuring the European security of supply,” stressed Mr Skrekas, during a meeting with Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov, noting also that the TAP pipeline covers 20 per cent of Greece’s energy needs.

In addition, both Ministers highlighted the importance of the Greek-Bulgarian interconnector not only for Greece but for the whole Southeastern European region, giving the country the tools to become a regional gateway for natural gas to the European market. 

Azerbaijan is also ready to double the volume of gas exports to Europe according to a Memorandum of Understanding signed with the European Union and the in the future, other than natural gas, the country prepares also to export more green energy.
