Polish gas transmission company GAZ-SYSTEM announced on Tuesday (10 October) that it has obtained a location decision for a gas pipeline between Wężerów (southern Poland) and Przewóz (western Poland).
With a total length of 44 kilometres (km) and a diameter of DN700, the pipeline is planned to run via the Małopolska Voivodeship (southern Poland), supplying gas to the Kraków agglomeration.
“Local development is very important in building competitive advantages of the Polish economy. National gas pipelines implemented by GAZ-SYSTEM, such as Wężerów – Przewóz, which will supply natural gas to an urban agglomeration with over a million inhabitants, provide an opportunity to switch to a low-emission and stable energy source in industry and the energy and heat production sector. The current government supports such activities of State Treasury companies because it attaches great importance to balancing strategic development with the development of regions and increasing the standard of living of residents and protecting their immediate surroundings and the environment,” said Anna Łukaszewska-Trzeciakowska, Government Plenipotentiary for Strategic Energy Infrastructure.
The new connection is planned to run through Słomniki, Radziemice, Koniusza, Kocmyrzów-Luborzyca and the City of Kraków, GAZ-SYSTEM said in a press release. In Wężerów, it is expected to be directly connected to the North-South Gas Corridor.
“The decision regarding the location of the Wężerów-Przewóz gas pipeline is another step towards increasing the energy security of southern Poland. Thanks to the direct connection to the North-South Gas Corridor, this investment will enable a multi-directional gas supply to the Krakow agglomeration. Moreover, the route of this gas pipeline will allow for flexible connection of further large industrial customers to the GAZ-SYSTEM transmission network, especially from the electricity sector,” said Marcin Chludziński, President of GAZ-SYSTEM.
The location decision was issued by the Voivode of Małopolska. The pipeline is planned to be completed in the first half of 2026, GAZ-SYSTEM said in the press release.
