Eustream and FGSZ signs Interconnection Agreement advancing Verical Corridor project

A new Interconnection Agreement has been signed between Hungary’s transmission system operator (TSO) FGSZ and Slovakia’s TSO, Eustream to increase available transport capacity to Slovakia from Hungary by 50 per cent.

Under the agreement, based on the market demand assessment ran in 2023, the offered firm capacity at the interconnection point Vel’ké Zlievce/Balassagyarmat will be increased to 3,180,189 kilowatt-hours per hour (kWh/h), from 200,000 cm/h to 300,000 cm/h; from 1.75 billion cubic metres per annum (bcma) to 2.63 bcma in the direction of Hungary-Slovakia as of the gas day of 20 February 2024, informed FGSZ.

The increased capacity will be offered as a monthly product (from the gas month of March 2024) and as a daily product (from 20 February 2024) at the respective monthly and daily capacity auctions on 19 February 2024. The increased capacity will be offered at each subsequent capacity auction in accordance with the CAM NC auction calendar.

The capacity increase at the Slovak-Hungarian border crossing, which does not require investment on either side, is an important part of the Vertical Corridor.

“Although agreed a priori to launch the capacity increase from July, thanks to the technical solutions of TSOs and the flexibility of the Hungarian regulatory authority as well as the no development need, the region’s security of supply can further increase as more alternative gas supplies can flow from the South toward the North direction,” said the CEO of FGSZ, Szabolcs I. Ferencz commenting on the agreement.
