The Executive Director of Bulgaria’s natural gas transmission system operator Bulgartransgaz, Vladimir Malinov reminded us how the availability of reliable suppliers is key to the energy security of the European Union.
“Solidarity and coordinated action between Member States are needed to ensure energy supply and combat high energy prices,” he said during the international East Med and SouthEast Europe Conference held on 25 October 2022 in Belgium.
Mr Malinov emphasised the role of natural gas, including liquefied natural gas, from trusted partners and the gas infrastructure to build a hydrogen economy and successfully achieve the EU’s climate goals.
Thanks to the liquefied gas terminals, the developed gas transmission system and the potential for the production and import of hydrogen, Bulgaria and Greece can become an energy portal for Central and Eastern Europe.
Indeed, as underlined by Energy Minister Rossen Hristov, Bulgaria has the potential to be a leader in green hydrogen production in the region. However, as the hydrogen market is still young, the most flexible conditions for its development must be provided, taking into account the specificities and potential of each Member State.
