Bulgaria’s Natural Gas Transmission System Operator (TSO) Bulgartransgaz and North Macedonia’s National Energy Resources (NER) will increase their cooperation to further develop the regional market of natural gas.

This is what emerged after a meeting between Bulgartransgaz’s Executive Director Vladimir Malinov and the management of NER, who have agreed that the joint work of the undertakings must intensify to strengthen the cooperation and achieve an integrated regional natural gas market.
The construction of a second interconnector between Strumica and Petrich, the increase of the existing cross-border transmission capacity and the partnership in the process of construction of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Alexandroupolis will be the major projects on which the two State operators will cooperate.
Concerning the LNG terminal of Alexandroupolis, last April NER has signed an agreement with Greek utility company Gastrade aiming at acquiring a stake; earlier in January, Bulgartransgaz was entered in the shareholders’ book of Gastrade as a full shareholder.
