As of 19 July 2023, Ukraine has stored 11.7 billion cubic metres of gas in its domestic underground gas storage facilities, in line with the country’s plan to prepare natural gas reserves for the upcoming heating season (21 July).
“Since the start of the 2023 pumping season, 2.5 bcm of gas has been delivered to Ukrainian underground gas storage facilities. This corresponds to the same period in 2022. The preparation of gas reserves for the coming winter season is generally in line with the plan. Moreover, in July we pumped even more gas than anticipated,” said Oleksiy Chernyshov, CEO of Naftogaz.
The Naftogaz CEO added that this represents an “excellent result,” given that in Q2 2023 gas consumption increased by 13 per cent as compared to the same period in 2022.
“The upward trend in gas consumption is driven by a number of factors, including the gradual recovery of our country’s economy. However, as can be seen from the available data, we still manage to achieve all our goals in preparation for the next winter, ” Mr Chernyshov added.
