SPP and Edison sign MoU for cooperation in gas and LNG sectors

Italy’s energy group Edison and Slovakia’s energy supplier SPP have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the gas and liquefied natural gas sectors (LNG), in order to increase Slovakia’s diversification and security of supply.

Under the agreement, SPP and Edison, which owns one of the largest and most diversified long-term gas portfolios in Italy, undertook to explore possible synergies for accessing the capacity of regasification from LNG, to allow Slovakia to open new supply routes from the South and West, thus strengthening the security of the European system.

SPP plans to ensure Slovakia’s access to LNG terminals and their regasification capacities from 2025. This is also why it recently signed several Memoranda of Understanding with key partners from Italy, Poland and Germany. At the same time, SPP is conducting negotiations with LNG producers from the US, Qatar, Asia and Africa.
