On 25 April, Slovakia’s biggest energy supplier, the Slovak Gas Industry (SPP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the German energy company, RWE Supply & Trading in Berlin.
The document “sets the stage” for exploring potential opportunities that could provide SPP with access to regasification capacities at the LNG terminals on the German coast. At the same time, both companies expressed interest in deepening business cooperation and providing opportunities to gain access to storage capacities in Germany, SPP said.
This follows recently inked LNG and regasification deals with companies from Italy, Poland, and Germany. SPP plans to ensure Slovakia’s access to regional LNG terminals and their regasification capacities by 2026, the company said.
“The company [SPP] ensured the diversification of supplies by concluding diversification contracts with the largest international suppliers of natural gas, with which it ensured 70 per cent coverage of its customers’ consumption from sources other than Russian,” SPP said in its press release.
SPP is also conducting negotiations with LNG producers from the United States, Qatar, Asia and Africa.
