Today the LNG carrier Patris is arriving at Croatia’s Krk terminal bringing 90 million cubic metres of LNG shipment from the United States to Hungary, informed Hungary’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó.
The first LNG cargo arrived on 1 January marking the start of the commercial operation of the Krk terminal. At the begininng of March Croatia has received its second shipment at the terminal and now the third cargo is arriving from the Freeport LNG export terminal in Texas. This is the second time that Hungary receives LNG supplies via the Croatian terminal.
The LNG terminal on the Island of Krk is a strategic project in terms of security of supply and diversification, not only for Croatia but also for the entire region.
“The second LNG cargo of Hungarian Gas Trade Ltd. arrived at the Croatian shores on 23 March, guaranteeing that the consolidation of a diversified energy portfolio based on Western natural gas sources, which started in January this year, will continue successfully,” said Zoltán Rahóty, Director of Structured Transactions and Long Term Origination of Hungarian Gas Trade to CEENERGYNEWS.
“The unloading of the cargo will begin at 4 p.m. 24 March, and we don’t have to wait for so long for the 3. ship, as it is planned to arrive to the Croatian terminal in the first half of April,” added Mr Rahóty.
Last year all the free terminal capacity was booked for the next three gas years. Major players include MFGK Croatia, subsidiary of the Hungarian state-owned energy group, MVM, MET Croatia Energy Trade, a 100 per cent subsidiary of Switzerland based MET Group and POWERGLOBE QATAR which will deliver LNG cargoes mainly from Qatar and the US.
Minister Szijjártó informed in his Facebook post that the second LNG cargo will bring 90 million cubic meters of LNG from the United States to Hungary. He added that after seventy years Western gas supplies to Hungary are continuous.
Attending the opening ceremony of the Krk LNG terminal in January, Minister Szijjártó underlined that the new terminal is a historic opportunity for Hungary and other countries of the region to access the global LNG market.
