First LNG carrier arrives at Krk

This morning, the Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) carrier Tristar Ruby has arrived at the Krk terminal in Croatia. It is the first LNG carrier to arrive at Krk, where the carrier was successfully moored in the special purpose port of the terminal.

After all tests and safety checks were performed, the LNG cargo transfer procedure from the LNG carrier on the FSRU vessel LNG CROATIA has started.

The current procedure is expected to last until 3 January 2021, after which the tanker Tristar Ruby will leave the terminal area. This activity marks the start of terminal commercial operation, in accordance with the planned deadlines, as already announced by Hrvoje Krhen, the Managing Director of LNG Croatia.

“The LNG terminal on the Island of Krk is a strategic project in terms of security of supply and diversification, not only for the Republic of Croatia but for EU as well,” Mr Krhen told CEENERGYNEWS. “It will ensure energy needs and increase the security of supply through the new natural gas supply route for the countries of Central and Southeastern Europe. In parallel, we are developing bunkering station in the Port of Rijeka in order to enable usage of LNG as an alternative fuel in the trafficking.”

Earlier in June, all the free terminal capacity was booked for the next three gas years. Major players include MFGK Croatia, subsidiary of the Hungarian state-owned energy group, MVM, MET Croatia Energy Trade, a 100 per cent subsidiary of Switzerland based MET Group and POWERGLOBE QATAR which will deliver LNG cargoes mainly from Qatar and the US.
