6th delivery of LNG for Slovakia: SPP ready for winter

Another Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) tanker, the BW Pavilion Leeara arrived at the terminal of Krk, in Croatia, which translates into the sixth delivery of LNG for Slovakia’s energy supplier SPP.

Since the beginning of the year, SPP has been buying LNG to increase the energy security of Slovakia and its energy independence. At the same time, the company is continuing to inject gas into the storage facilities, to be prepared ahead of winter.

“The fact that we have been able to secure more than 65 per cent of our supplies through LNG and diversified contracts since the beginning of this year, amidst the current difficult conditions of the energy market, is a significant success,” said Richard Prokypčák, general director of SPP.

The latest shipment of LNG amounted to 0.84 terawatt-hours (TWh). In total, the import of LNG to Slovakia has so far reached a volume of 4.9 TWh (450 million cubic metres). Regarding storage, Slovakia currently has almost 31.5 TWh of gas stored, which represents approximately 55 per cent of the country’s annual consumption.

SPP said to be optimistic about the winter season, without affecting energy supplies to its customers. However, the company also stated that it is crucial for the whole of Slovakia that the European market and cross-border connections between individual EU Member States keep functioning.
