Grants worth 3.4 million euro for developing geothermal energy projects in Bulgaria

Bulgaria’s Ministry of Energy is calling local authorities and state institutions to apply for grants worth 3.4 million euro for developing geothermal energy projects.

The call for proposals concerns the use of geothermal energy for heating or and cooling in state or municipal buildings and it is funded by the Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency, Energy Security programme.

Each project can apply for grants between 200,000 euro and 400,000 which can cover the entire cost of the project.

The Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency, Energy Security programme was launched at the end of 2020 and its main objectives include increasing renewable energy production, improving energy efficiency in buildings, industry and municipalities and strengthening expert capacity for renewable energy, energy efficiency and energy management.

A special concern was given to hydroelectric power and geothermal energy as a source of renewable energy.
