Ukraine Energy Support Fund: Denmark’s contribution ‘fully utilised’ as Iceland joins aid efforts

Denmark’s contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, made via the Danish Energy Agency and two donations by private donors, has reported “full utilisation,” the Fund’s fiduciary Energy Community Secretariat announced on Friday (10 February).

The Danish grants financed 21 different kinds of items requested by eight different Ukrainian companies (mostly in the areas of electricity and gas distribution).

“The Danish contribution made an impact which goes beyond these direct benefits for the Ukrainian energy system: the experience made helped the Ukraine Energy Support Fund rise to its potential,” said Dirk Buschle, Energy Community Secretariat’s Deputy Director. “The Fund today procures and disburses three-digit million-euro amounts aimed at ensuring the stable operation of the energy system of Ukraine.”

Separately, the Secretariat announced a fiduciary agreement last week (3 February) between the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Iceland and the Energy Community Secretariat. As a result, Iceland granted 1.5 million euros to support Ukrainian energy companies and its citizens exposed to the impact of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Iceland is the sixth European country, after Denmark, the United Kingdom, Germany, Austria and Spain, opting to support the Ukrainian energy sector via the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, alongside the European Commission, ERRA and REKK.

As of 3 February 2023, the accumulated contributions amounted to more than 157 million euros.
