Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelenskyi signed the Law on the Use of Energy Storage Systems, which will balance the operation of the power system and increase the stability of electricity supply to consumers.
As also reported by the European-Ukrainian Energy Agency, the law provides not only a regulation of a new type of activity on the electricity market (electricity storage activities), but also a new licensing.
The law is aimed at encouraging electricity market participants to introduce and develop energy storage technologies, which is especially relevant given the growing capacity of green energy, which has led to significant imbalances in the energy system.
Indeed, energy storage facilities can optimise electricity production and provide additional capacity to balance the energy system, guaranteeing its flexibility – to balance the load on generation and other electricity infrastructure.
