Poland recorded a power demand record of 28,660 megawatts (MW) last Tuesday (9 January), as confirmed by the country’s electricity transmission system operator PSE.
This exceeds the previous record from 12 February 2021 by over 1,000 MW.
Poland’s electricity system is stable and has an adequate power reserve, PSE noted in a press release on Wednesday (10 January).
Similarly to other countries in the region, the significant increase in power demand was primarily influenced by the low temperatures.
During the demand peak, coal and gas power plants operated at a capacity of approximately 23 gigawatts (GW), while wind and photovoltaic farms operated at a capacity of about 3.4 GW. 1.3 GW of power was imported, PSE reported in the press release.
