Hungarian home renovation program to launch early June

The draft version of the call for proposals of the Home Renovation Programme (HRP) is now being finalised by the Hungarian Government: the website of the HRP will launch at the end of May and eligible residents will be able to apply for interest-free loans and grants from Monday, 3 June 2024.

Based on more than 525 opinions and suggestions received during the national public consultation process, the aim of the HRP programme is to renovate and modernise tens of thousands of Hungarian family houses built before 1990, reduce their energy costs and stimulate further economic growth.

HRP’s budget is 108 billion Hungarian forints (approximately 280 million euros), while the amount of government interest-free loans and grants can reach up to 3,8 million Hungarian forints (approximately 9,800 euros) per household, which can increase to 7 million Hungarian forints (approximately 18,000 euros) per household with self-reliant own contributions.

The loans and grants of the programme can be used in the Hungarian family houses to insulate the walls and rooftops, to change the doors and windows, as well as to modernise the furnaces, water heaters, heating systems and pipelines in the building.

In order to meet the climate change pledges of Hungary and to reduce national energy consumption, the investments from the loans and grants shall guarantee at least 30 per cent energy savings per household.

The HRP website will also provide a list of local and regional contributing consultants, general contractors and handyman entrepreneurs in order to facilitate the successful application process as well as the commissioning and contract signing between service providers and residents applying for the HRP loans and grants.

This will accelerate local and regional general contracting activity and, in turn, increase national economic growth in the long run.
