ALPEX approved as nominated power market operator in Albania and Kosovo

Kosovan Board of the Energy Regulatory Office (ERO) and Albanian Board of the Energy Regulatory Entity (ERE) held a second joint meeting in Pristina last week (17 July) during which the Albanian Power Exchange (ALPEX)’s request for designation as Nominated Electricity Market Operator (NEMO) for Albanian and Kosovo bidding zones was approved.

“This is another important milestone for the implementation of DAM [Day-Ahead Market] market coupling Albania-Kosovo,” ALPEX said via LinkedIn.

Prior to this announcement, Kosovo’s Economy Ministry Artane Rizvanolli participated in the Trading in ALPEX Conference held in the Kosovan capital Prishtina, which focused on the operationalisation of ALPEX in Kosovo (13 July).

During the conference, Minister Rizvanolli said that ALPEX will connect the energy markets of Kosovo and Albania, increasing liquidity, creating transparent prices, enabling increased roll-out of renewables, and bringing both countries closer to the pan-European market.

The Albanian power market, which became operational in Albania earlier this year, will contribute to a competitive market in both countries, Kosovan Economy Ministry said via a press release.
