The public procurement organised by Estonia’s Transmission System Operator (TSO) Elering for upgrading the 330-kilovolt Mustvee-Paide high-voltage line was won by the Finnish energy company Enersense and the German construction and engineering group Leonhard Weiss. The contract is valued at 36.9 million euros excluding VAT.
“Upgrading the Mustvee-Paide overhead line will strengthen the connection of transit lines from the Narva region to Latvia via Valga with the rest of the 330-kilovolt grid of Estonia,” said Taavi Veskimägi, Chairman of the Management Board of Elering. “This is important for the connection of the Baltic countries to the continental European electricity system as well as for the connection of new renewable energy capacities to the power grid, especially in Western Estonia.”
The existing 330-kilovolt Mustvee-Paide high-voltage transmission line will be fully renovated within the scope of the procurement. The line route and the locations of masts will remain the same. The length of the overhead transmission line to be reconstructed is approximately 84 kilometres. The renovation is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2025.
A new 110-kilovolt overhead line will be built between the Mustvee and Kantküla substations within the scope of the same procurement, where the wires will largely be located on the same masts as those of the 330-kilovolt Mustvee-Paide line, which is being renovated. This solution makes it possible to dismantle the existing Mustvee-Kantküla overhead line located on another route and the full release of more than 100 hectares of land underneath it from restrictions associated with the line.
