Ukraine’s Gas TSO reduces emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere

As a result of the first quarter of 2020, the Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine (GTSOU) conducted more than 500 environmental actions. Mainly due to a decrease in gas transportation volumes during this period, emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere decreased by 20 per cent while CO2 emissions decreased by 57 per cent.

Also, due to the responsible management of resources, water usage decreased by 28 per cent and the generation of industrial waste by 23 per cent.

The GTSOU has set the evaluation of the impact on the environment as a priority and provided the emission limits for gas pumping units at the level of European standards. The company’s strategy includes significant emission reductions thanks to technical modernisation of infrastructure and in general active support of the processes of decarbonisation of Ukraine’s economy.

Among the most important successes, the GTSOU managed to reduce the ratio of gas to the transport unit due to the modernisation and decommissioning of obsolete gas-pumping units.
