Serbia reports progress on draft RES amendment legislation, Energy Community says

During a recent visit to Serbia, Energy Community Secretariat Director, Artur Larkowski discussed energy market reforms and plans for decarbonisation with the Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy, Dubravka Djedović and other relevant stakeholders.

The discussions focused on the transposition of the new electricity package, developments in the preparation of the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) and progress in facilitating the security of the gas supply.

“The National Energy and Climate Plan is the key document for determining the dynamics and key steps in the process of energy transition in Serbia and to ensure harmonisation of our targets in increasing electricity production from RES, improving energy efficiency and reduction of GHG emissions,” said Minister Djedović on Serbia’s NECP. “We want to be ambitious but realistic in setting our goals. The public discussion and consultations with the Energy Community on NECP should help us draft the highest quality document”.

Regarding legislative progress on the amendments to the Law on the Use of Renewable Energy Sources, the Mining and Energy Minister expects the Serbian parliament to adopt it “soon.”

“Serbia is advancing on its path towards the net-zero economy,” added Mr Lorkowski. “I am pleased to hear about the drafted amendments to the Law on the Use of Renewable Energy Sources, paving the way for first auctions and boosting the deployment of renewables. Moreover, the Secretariat welcomes the finalisation of the draft NECP and repeats its offer to assist Serbia in designing and implementing the plan.”
